Anyone got some decent systems up and running for obtaining clients for thier businesses? Hoping to do a bit of copywriting on the side and cold email is the initial plan, but where to find good prospects? Linkedin? Purchasable mailing lists? A google search? Or have people used websites before that offer up specific copywriting jobs for freelancers?

What works best, both short term and long term, is to build an email list

Take the clients you already have, and anyone else who has shown interest in your work and put them on the list

Then write regularly to that list demonstrating your expertise with entertaining stories

I recommend every day

Doing this you'll build clout as well as grooming your prospects and framing them to see you as their best solution to their marketing problems

Your list is now your buyer list that you can hit up when you lose a client or want an extra one

It's the ultimate business card as well

All your other marketing will be to convert people to this list

That's when you can use Linkedin, word of mouf, paid ads, podcast interviews, etc

I highly recommend networking groups, this site being one of them

For copywriters I recommend CopyChief, I used to be a member so if you join you can name drop to me to Kevin Rogers and the gang, they don't know me as Knox though. This is where you'll get hih-ticket gigs, if you do like I'm saying which is to present yourself and your skills with confidence and consistency. Something that can only come with daily commitment like I outline above

Ah so a regular "newsletter" let's call it showing off some concepts useful to them re: marketing and showing off your services value as a constant reminder (in an entertaining way), and when you need a new paying client send out a message to all asking if anyone needs your services specifically at the moment?

Any software you could reccomend for managing and messaging email lists? And any other networking groups around other than the 2.0 community and Copychief? Personally I'm still in the studying phase of my plan but working on a plan for the next phase too.

There's substance to it

Not showing off, demonstrating your expertise and prowess

You are an expert like a doc

A doctor doesn't "show off" he is known, liked, and trusted well before you even meet

That's why you pay his high rates and don't question what he puts into your body or the weird things he asks you to do

An email list grants you that kind of power, if you adopt the above the mindset and work diligently
