I've got quite a bit of cash and like BD and many others am unwilling to invest it in the stocks. If/when a financial crisis starts it's good to have cash but what till then? Short of starting or investing in a business (ideas?) gold seems to be the only viable option. What do you think?

By that logic, you would never trust anyone because you disagree with everyone on at least one topic. That's ASSinine.
The only trust is to trust yourself. Do you trust yourself to discern what suits your life and enjoyment of it or not.
If not your issue is not where you get your information, it's what are you going to do to build your confidence so you stop doubting yourself.
It's not about disagreement; it's about dishonest advice that some investment gurus are known to give more often than not. But yeah one has to do their own research.
