Why you should quit social media

Hi everyone.

For a few years now, I struggled with social media. Being an introvert and not having lots of friends, I find it hard scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed and seeing what wonderful lives my friends and work colleagues were having. Eventually, I spent more and more time scrolling through my newsfeed even to the point of stalking the Facebook account of the girl I loved.

This was having huge impact on my mood and mental health in general. The more time I spent on social media, the less time I had to work on the projects and the activities I needed the most. Eventually, I deleted my Facebook account. A few months after, feeling lonely because my "friends" forgot about me, I decided to come back and create a new Facebook. A few months later, I deleted my account again and create another one the next year. I have been doing this for probably about seven times. My acquaintances were not accepting me anymore into their friends's list because they thought I was playing with them or I was crazy.

I also tried the other popular social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. Finally, I decided to quit everything and never come back on those websites.

A few days ago, I started to read "Digital Minimalism" by Cal Newport. I really like this book. He talks about how we can overcome social media by spending our time on things more productive. I have not read the entire book yet but I suggest you take a look.

In the last few weeks, I feel more productive because I have plenty of time to do the things I enjoy the most instead of watching a newsfeed or waiting for a red notification to appear and warn me that someone liked or comment on one of my posts. And what about all the acquaintances I know who never write or call me? I just deleted them from my contact list and I decided to move on and meet person face to face instead of online.

And you, do you struggle with social media? What have you done to cope with this problem?

You can try techniques but personal emotional reasons are why we overconsume and me alone most of time

Think my lonely personal life, is part of issue
