Early bird, gets the worm

Health
Feeling way better and back to normal sleep mode (apart from one night this week).
Keep on walking. Gym still closed .

Money
  • Long term projects - en route.
  • LinkedIN based partnership - Had a call from someone who approached me regarding smart cities abroad. Will prepare presentation and hopefully get the leads started.
Update: Talk to one of mLTR so she'll do the work for me. Sent her a description of it.
  • Started tracking my hours on each project/customer. This is to make sure that the compensation and effort are aligned.
Since beginning of the month (4 weeks) did 99 hours - 25 hours per week.
Networking and Friends assistance
  • Helping Friends
    1. Job-seeking friends - helped another friend by translating his CV to English. Waiting to hear how it went.
    2. Networking
      1. Continuing my new policy on LinkedIN - everyone who connects with me gets a "How can I help you" message.
Also added sending birthdays wishes and saying I'm here for them.
Books
2 books this week:
  1. City, by Alessandria Baricco - that book was not good. His earlier one I read (Silk) was way better.
  2. Basketball - Not only a game, by Noah Klieger - This is a good book filled with anecdotes by one of Israel's leading basketball reporter and manager. The guy details dozens of episode starting from early 1950s and all the way up to the end of the century. I use to play pro for a while, and am familiar with ~10% of the stories and 50% of the characters.
Learning
Attended a zoom lecture for parents on how to deal with teenage kids during COVID. Seems I'm doing rather well

Health = Progress was made in spades here. 5k last Wednesday was under 30 minutes. Otherwise everything is fine. I had tons of cheat meals during the Thanksgiving weekend, but none of it had any adverse effect on me.

Money = Nooooo progress here I'm afraid. Decided to bowl in tons of tournaments over the Thanksgiving weekend and I did not do well enough to cash. Was very close but it just wasn't enough. Weak sauce. Made a little bit in Uber Eats but it wasn't that impressive. However! I am making some big moves when it comes to my businesses, preferably my freelance writing business. Gonna start building my website starting tomorrow.

Chicks = Nothing at the moment. I mean I got this informal gf I keep making plans with but that's whatevs.

Learning = Millionaire Fastlane has been added to Audible and I will start listening to it tomorrow.

Networking = Might start writing for one of my bowling buddies. Gonna show him all the stuff in my portfolio next time we all bowl which will be on Thursday.

Health
All is well.
Keep on walking, but only did it twice. Gym still closed .

Money
  • Long term projects - en route.
Second project - in process to become an official supplier and bill them.
Counted the hours, and my rate. This month I'm billing at 400$/hour. If only I can keep on doing it.
  • LinkedIN based partnership - Had a call from someone who approached me regarding smart cities abroad. Will prepare presentation and hopefully get the leads started.
Update: mLTR working on it. Sat with her this weekend to see how it is going, afterwards banged her well. Expect it to be ready for my inspection this week.
  • Hour tracking - beginning of the month was intense, but this week seems very relaxed.
  • An old customer called me all of a sudden for assistance. Connected him with one of my other clients, and we dealt with his issue. This will result in a future project of a few months.
Networking and Friends assistance
  • Helping Friends
    1. Job-seeking friends - Sent another colleague's CV to a connection of mine. Also used it as part of BizDev, as my connection has joined a new company and I asked him to consider me as a consultant.
    2. Networking
      1. Continuing my new policy on LinkedIN - everyone who connects with me gets a "How can I help you" message.
Also added sending birthdays wishes and saying I'm here for them.
Books
3 books this week. All highly recommended:
  1. Bel-Ami, by Guy de Maupassant - The author masterfully portrays the decaying end of 19th century. in what can be quickly adapted to our modern day lives. A city where everyone is looking for power and pleasure, is the scenery for a man's rise to the top.
Oh, and there is no "happy ending". After manipulating everyone, and being manipulated himself, our protagonist marries the "girl of our dreams" (young, very attractive, good character and wealthy 18 year old), only to come across his former mistress and think of banging her (right after the wedding).
What impressed me was the writers ability to portray the specifics of emotions and situations. What sin looks like from the sinners perspective, How jealousy takes over and the growth of ambition. Also hidden in the book is the emptiness the soul feels when you are racing to the top, stepping on other people.
  2. Call from an Angel, by Guillaume Musso. Great book that throws you off balance every few pages. Extremely well written. Starts as a RomCom, and develops quickly into an exciting psychological thriller across continents.
  3. A Talent for War, by Jack McDevitt. A Sci-Fi "archeology thriller". It is the story of a search by Alex, the protagonist, to discover the nature of a mysterious project Alex's uncle had been working on at the time of his death. This investigation leads deep into the history of a war between human civilization and a neighboring alien civilization and challenges the foundation mythos of the current human government. And did I mention it happens a few millennia into the future?
Learning
Attended a zoom lecture by a B2B advisor. There were small jams here and there but nothing major.

I'll check in tomorrow night since my week "ends" on Wednesday nights. It'll be much more organized that way.

Health = I straight up wow'd myself with the 5k I just ran before checking in tonight. 28 minutes and 38 seconds. Let's go.

However, I need to start respecting my sleep way more. If I sleep too much, my neck will hurt for most of the day. If I sleep too little, my stomach and back start hurting. My side has been hurting most of today and that was because I underslept. Right around the oblique area. Yet when I had this pain I still destroyed my 5k. Interesting, but I'd rather not deal with any of that by making sure my sleep is on point..

Watched Caleb's video about all the vitamins he takes. Definitely going to do all I can to add some of the vitamins he takes to what I take.

Money/business/vocation = Looong story about this. Get ready.

So I discovered an organization that gives freelance writers like me access to tasks that you can do one at a time for them. They pay $.10 per word and if they like what you wrote, they will pay you. If they don't, you can always do another task. They also have a newsletter that you can join for five bucks a month that gives you a smattering of organizations that are hiring writers and other such freelancers as well.

The organization is called the International Assotiation of Professional Writers and Editors. Every day I get tons of of opportunities from them.

One such opportunity turned into an actual job offer to edit accounting spreadsheets using various accounting software that they have offered to buy for me. I just got hired yesterday and I'll be starting either tomorrow or Friday depending on when their check clears.

The rate?

$15 an hour when training, $20 an hour after training ends.

I should be pretty good at this kind of thing since I really enjoy organizing stuff and it seems like this kind of job requires a lot of organization.

According to my interview, you can set your own hours and work as much or as little as you want.

This is my meal ticket that will get me away from doing Uber Eats, which is better for me (reduces the chances of me getting COVID19 again) and my car (won't need to waste money on repairs).

I can't wait to start this job. Let's go. This is the opportunity that I have been waiting for. I will not screw it up.

Learning = Soooo I started listening to and taking notes on the Millionaire Fastlane. I swear, I encountered this book a clear decade too late. Holy shit. So many fantastic lessons in it. I've already "passively" listened to a little over half of it (putting it on in the background while working on assignments) and when I want to listen to it attentively and take notes, I'll backtrack.

The Millionaire Fastlane is fantastic. Must read for anybody like me who wants to improve their vocation/business/financial life.

Chicks = Ehhh, nothing going on right now. Don't really care, really. December is not a good month for dating. Probably gonna take the rest of the month off or just see the FB I have until 2021 begins.

It's been a really good week for me. Something tells me things are only gonna get better from here on out.

Boy did this week suck!

Health = Only 1/2 a win here across several Ls. The 5k I ran on Sunday went well, got a little under 30 minutes. Went to my gym now that most of the COVID clad college students in town are gone. Did bench press and military press and damn, I got weak. So physical health is alright, got some weird tightness in the right side of my core. Gotta be from all the sitting/driving I do.

The several Ls came on the mental side. I had a nasty anxiety attack yesterday. Like couldn't sleep and was sweating in bed even though it was 69 degrees in my room anxiety. Had to call 211 and speak to two of what I call "rent-a-counselors" to calm me down, which only kinda worked.

Why is this? Read on and find out.

Business/vocation = ZERO wins here. Only 3000 Ls in the form of a bad check from that job offer I was raving about last week. Yeah, I got swindled. This is what happens when you are desperate for better work. You let your guard down and let yourself get taken advantage of. I am not happy with myself and how I let myself get taken advantage of like that. So much so that when that check came back, I tore down the affirmations I put on my bathroom mirror, wrote a giant "KYS" on the back of it, and put that up instead. That was on Friday.

I'm just glad this didn't happen to me a decade ago. That mirror would be shattered in tiny pieces and I'd probably be in the hospital with a fractured hand.

The KYS note is gone now, but I really dislike myself for being that desperate. The anger turned into anxiety and that's how I felt over the weekend. I was mechanically halfassing my gig applications, of which I applied to about 22. Only got a response from 2 of them and both of those said that I suck too much to write for them. No surprise there.

Networking = Recovering from this anxiety, today I brushed myself off and went on MJ DeMarco's free community, the fastlane forums. It's like here only it has about 100x more people in it! LOTS of Alpha 2 stuff! I'll be doing my income journals there instead of here from now on probably since I can get more input and feedback there.

Chicks = Started chatting with a meh looking chick on OKC, will meet her on Saturday. Look just cuz I'm out 3 grand doesn't mean I still can't get my chick life handled. The date will be free anyways, just gonna be us at a popular outdoor hangout.

Learning = Millionaire Fastlane is amazing. And one of the members of the fastlane forum has a 2 hour or so Upwork tutorial that is over 9000 times better than the trash tier ones I've been privy to since 2017. God dammit, how come I didn't get into this stuff three years ago? So I followed his stuff and made some adjustments to my Upwork profile. I'll be doing the same with my freelancer website and other profiles soon starting tomorrow.

Its difficult to not despise myself for a stupid mistake like this. Its a massive setback for me for sure. Fortunately, my income streams are still intact. Now its time for me to take advantage of them more than ever.

Early bird, gets the worm

Health
Bad news: My kid's elective surgery was early and we had to rush into it. Spent 1/2 the week in the hospital.
Also got an eye infection (mild).
On top of that was almost quarantine because my brother couldn't wait 3 days in his quarantine and went with his family to get tested. My sister in law has COVID, and I beardly made the days required to not go into 14 days quarantine.
Gym still closed .

    • New opportunity - Got a call from one of my clients.
We discussed changing of regulation and they asked me for a review (paid gig).
    • New opportunity - Was asked by a company I work with to be on a call with one of our rivals for a bid I'm working on. Contributed to the call and sent materials, all while maintain "non breach of confidentiality" and making sure there is no conflict of interest

Books
4 books this week.
  1. Double Star, by Robert A. Heinlein - A less known classic, about an actor hired to sub for a politician being kidnapped. Sci-Fi.
  2. Shut your eyes tight, by John Vedon - another good thriller.
  3. Afterwards... , by Guillaume Musso - Good pace, nice twists but not-good-enough character build.
  4. Short story collection of Guy de Maupassant
Learning
Was able to be on several lectures:
"Creative tools to become a brand" and "Who's afraid of criticism" - both sucked.
Good lecture on teenage hangout culture (by the school) with suggested actions (which I seem to be doing most of)

Decided to take on Arabic. Found an online free class and will start shortly.

We're shifting this setup to better progress the men here.

Starting with the first Sunday of next year.

With 10 days left in the year, what 1-2 goals do you have that you want to achieve by end of the year?

Choose 1-2 for any of the Life Areas (Physical, Women, Family, Social, Financial, Recreational, and/or Spiritual)

Books
Just 1 book this week:
  1. WHEN, by Daniel H. Pink - Good book about using time right - what to do during the day, how to start and finish things and how to synchronize.
Learning
Not a good week for learning
Decided to take on Arabic. Found an online free class and will start shortly.

Miscellaneous
Had a lot of hours waisted this week due to another mLTR.
She "found out" she wasn't the only one, and that it wasn't just FB on my part. I'm at blame as I told her part of the truth and not all of it. That waisted ~10 hours this week and it's on me.
It took her that amount of time to understand that her position "was not compromised" and that everything is the same (as it was for the past few years). Will try in the future to care less about giving her the truth.

Alright, final entry of the year with the old format. Been awhile cuz I decided to celebrate Christmas with my family. Funny that I'm Jewish but celebrate Christmas more than Hanukkah. Whatevs tho.

Health = I had a whole cheat week! lol. But ran a 5k yesterday and it went well. Despite gaining 5lbs I still hit my 5k in a little under 29 minutes. If I keep at this and lose about 20-30 lbs I will probably be able to hit the sub 25 mark. I do miss the weights tho.

I've made a decision to just use the damn smith machine at my complex's weight room. With pretty much everyone in my city having COVID now (seriously, like 25% of the city's population has it now haha) and having no interest in getting it again, I'm only gonna go to the gym if the weight room in my complex is closed. I hate using smith machines for barbell resistance training but I REALLY need to hit the squats again. I was barely able to squat my own body weight (195) for a set of 10 last time. This time last year, I was able to hit 225 for a set of 20. Ouch. But then again my 5k times this time last year were well over a half hour, like 32-33 minutes.

Financial/Vocation = Uber Eats has been crazy slow during the college break. I did however get interviewed for a fairly lucrative writing gig about 10 or so days ago. Think I'm gonna get the money I got swindled for back, as I saw a pending credit in my PayPal account. Not holding my breath however. Either way whether I get the refund or not I'm closing the account and making a new one. Not gonna chance this scammer having access to my PayPal tag or any other info. I'll just need to change all that stuff when dealing with clients.

The freelance writing stuff is pretty much the same for now.

Chicks = Had a damn good first date a little over a week ago. She actually looked waaaay better than her pictures. Date was completely free but man did we enjoy each others company. I usually take all of December off chicks but I decided to do some part time hunting this year. Results have been alright.

Compared to most, this year's been pretty damn good to me. Definitely made more money than last year and if I didn't get swindled, I would have made significant progess in paying my debt down. Either way 2021 is only gonna be better.

Gonna pretend that today is Sunday the 3rd and do this now. So from what I read, I have until January 10th to do these? Let me know if that's right.

Physical = Squat my own body weight (195) for a set of 20. Gonna give myself 5 minutes to do this in one set. The Super Squats program that I used to follow dictates that you only have 3 minutes to do the one set of 20, but I haven't properly done Super Squats in a year so I'm giving myself 5 minutes haha. Sucks that I need to use the Smith Machine at my complex's weight room but that's just how it is. It's gonna be MURDER on my quads since squatting on the smith machine takes your glutes and hamstrings away cuz the restrictions of the machine but to hell with it.

Financial/Vocational = Make at least $500 doing Uber Eats and apply to at least 40 writing jobs. If I do Uber Eats from 9 to 6 every day and apply to 5 gigs a day using the "lead sheet" that I get emailed every day after doing Uber Eats, this will be no problem. Uber Eats should have better volume again since college starts back up on the 4th.

fyi my big financial/vocational goal for 2021 is to completely replace Uber Eats with doing writing jobs at home. Less wear and tear on my car (which I plan to give to my mom when I turn 40 in 2022) and less chances of me getting COVID19 again (as well as other illnesses). Also less sitting which means less pain in general.

I'll refer to next week (Starting Jan-10):

Goals for the week:
Financial/Work
1. Lock in an addition to one of my long-term projects - It seems I may be able to work with 2 entities of that project. Already started with one and billed them. If I nail the second I have a new 5 year income source.
Success estimation: medium-low
2. Submit proposal for a joint project with my father
Success estimation: High

Physical
- Walk/jog at least 3 times
Success estimation: Medium-High

Women
- Keep my roaster steady (2 mLTR)
Success estimation: High

Family
- Talk to my brother at least one time (he needs the psychological support during lockdown)
Success estimation: High

Recreational
- Read at least 3 books (we're on lockdown)
Success estimation: Medium-High

Spiritual
- Something that happens this week made me question my use of morals. Need to investigate and decide
Success estimation: unknown

Damn dude, Israel is straight up turning into North Korea before our very eyes with its stay-at-home orders it seems. That sucks.

I mean a good amount of the US is like that too but the city I'm at is as normal as it can be. Hell, just went on a date where we went to an amusement center then went to a chinese buffet right after. Was just like before the stay-at-home orders and stuff, we just needed to wear face covers. And even those were more optional than they were enforced.

Anyways:

January 10th - 17th

Business/Vocation = Make $500-$600 across Uber Eats and my freelance writing assignments. I did this last week from the 3rd to the 10th, and actually made a little more. I made a little over $400 on Uber Eats and a little over $200 doing writing assignments.

I got assigned about 20 or so more articles last Sunday so I've been working on those. These are the real cheap paying assignments but they take like an hour to do. So even if they pay about $20 per article, if it only takes me an hour or so to do em that's $20 an hour roughly. Not bad. Just wish I had a whole lot more than 20 to do at a time.

Another goal is to keep applying to writing jobs. I recently scored a new gig on Upwork so if that turns into continuous work I'll be good.

My main goal for the year when it comes to this is a series of milestones actually.

By my first "vacation" of this year (March 21-28) I want to be sure that I'm only doing Uber Eats for only 4 or so hours a day, spending the other 4-6 hours on writing. If I keep applying to stuff and keep getting assignments, my income from the assignments will ideally match what I make on Uber Eats.

By the second vacation (June 26-July 4th) I want my writing assignments to surpass Uber Eats, making it totally optional.

By the third vacation of the year (September 29-October 6), I hope to be so stable with my writing assignments that I won't need to even worry about owning a car at all. I'll give it to my mom for her birthday which is on October 6th.

That is the plan. While I don't mind doing Uber Eats all day for now, I want to make sure that I don't need to do it all day so I can not only work on writing assignments but score gigs that give me more of them. All I really need is 1-2 more steady and continuous streams of freelance writing work to be able to swap Uber Eats with writing assignments. It is so close I can taste it.

Physical

Run two 5ks and get a work physical. That's about it for this other than the other stuff I do to maintain my physical health (200 squats and push ups a day, light weightlifting at the weight room of my apartment complex, etc).

I wanted to start lifting heavy again but I'm actually gonna back off of it for now. I mean I'll keep lifting weights and doing stuff like squats and push ups and stuff, but the big weights are gonna "weight" (see what I did there? lol) until I can successfully move into a one-bedroom apartment, which will be in August.

When I move into said apartment, I can put in a nice home gym right in my living room since I have no interest in owning any possessions anyways. I mean the home gym is a possession in and of itself but at least It'll be a possession that will contribute to something.

No man, it's not like that. We were on the same page.
However, here is my interpretation of what to do in case of lockdown - RTFM
